Lymphatic Drainage Massage

What is Lymphatic Drainage Massage?

Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD)

MLD is a non-invasive and safe hand movement technique, that can help the reduction of fluid retention and lymphoedema caused from surgery or injury to the body.

Lymphatic Drainage Massage naturally helps relieve several conditions which have been caused by injury conditions.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)

How does it work?

Applying light pressure and rhythmic hand movement over the area to improve the function of the lymphatic system. We call this water shedding. No oil is normally used but it can be if needed. The draining of the fluid can provide less swelling from areas of discomfort and badly swollen. Certain medical treatments can cause the area to become very hot to touch, large amounts of fluid that is blocking your lymphatic system,

Lymphatic drainage massage involves gently moving the fluid to a specific areas of your body to help expel excess fluid.

Do I need lymphatic drainage?

  • If you have woken up sore and stiffness in certain areas of your body like the knees, legs, hips or arms, or you have  become sluggish, and feel hot in parts of body that is retaining fluid or has become congested.
  • Do you feel physically? Symptoms: tired, hot to touch area, stiff, swollen, slow, inflamed, fatigue, muscle pain, allergies, etc
  • Swelling – Swelling can occur in a limb or a part of the body. Hard to put on shoes, clothes, jewellery. At first the swelling may go, come back & again. It can also get worse during the day and go down overnight.
  • Without treatment, it will usually become more severe and persistent.

Lymphatic Massage aftercare.

  • Loosen clothing to allow i lymph flow.
  • Increase your water over the next few days as the body can be in high toxicity after the treatment.
  • Avoid alcohol or wine for 24 hours.
  • Have the day off to rest and relax.
  • Regular exercise – not strenuous will help with muscle contraction & lymph flow.
  • Frequent visits to the toilet as your body is pushing out that extra fluid.
  • You may feel sleepy after treatment.

The best treatment for you to book in is either a 90min or 120min treatment to get the full effect of the Manual lymphatic Drainage. There is absolutely no pain or pressure with this treatment.

If you think you may not need a lymphatic drainage, you can always try a relaxation massage, remedial massage or hot stone massage for muscle tightness.
